Our Mission

To bring interested people together in a forum to improve and influence the quality of life for people with mental illnesses by advocating, educating and involving the community about the need for treatment, support, insurance parity and research.

 

Our Goals

 

  • To support families and others who have a loved one experiencing severe mental and emotional problems.

  • To assure families and significant others they are not alone and let them know that approximately one of every four American families is affected by mental illness.

  • To provide useful information and education to families and other interested people about mental illnesses.

  • To provide families other interested people with information about treatment and services that are available, how to access those services and how to work effectively with service providers.

  • To work for an improvement of the services in the community for the mentally ill.

  • To encourage research on mental disorders to improve the future for ill family members.

  • To help correct misconceptions about mental illnesses and reduce stigma through community education.

 

Membership

 

Membership is open to family members and the significant others of persons with mental illnesses and any interested person or group who is concerned about mental health issues and supports the purposes of NAMI  of Wayne and Holmes Counties.
